history of santisimo rosario UST (SRU)
In December of 1991, Tito Naning Alinea
called to a meeting members of the Pag-Ibig sa Diyos
Catholic Community (PDCC), mostly from ME Class 109 and
below, who were living in or near the Sta. Cruz-Sampaloc
districts in Manila.
Those who attended the meeting, including Tito Naning
and Tita Mila Alinea, were Nanding-Maring Sanchez, Raffy-Amy
Flores, Jun-Irene Guevarra, Boy-Linda Lucido, Boy-Malou de
Chavez and Tony-Aisa Cancio.
Tito Naning informed the group that PDCC had approved
the formation of a prayer group at UST, provided there were
at least 43 members.
Several meetings were subsequently held, without,
however, the required number of members being reached.
In the meeting held on January 19, 1992, 32 couples
attended.
Despite being short by 11 of the 43 couples required, the
members present decided to go ahead and leave everything to
the Lord.
Tito Naning, assisted by Tita Malou de
Chavez, sought the approval of then Parish Priest of
Santisimo Rosario Parish Church, Fr. Gallardo “Butch”
Bombase, O.P. , for the group to hold weekly prayer meetings
in the parish church.
Fr. Bombase readily agreed; thereupon, the group
decided to call itself the Santisimo Rosario-UST (SRU)
Prayer Group.
Santisimo Rosario – UST Prayer Group
was inaugurated on February 5, 1992 with the following
Interim Pastoral Team: Nanding / Maring Sanchez as Prayer
Group coordinator, Vic / Les Anatalio, Pabling / Liling
Ocampo, Boy / Linda Lucido, Peping / Linda Macalinao, Jun /
Irene Guevarra, Boy/Malou de Chavez and Tony/Aisa Cancio.
Tito Naning / Tita Mila Alinea was Shepherd Couple.
Six (6) days later, on February 11,
1992, the Hearts of Jesus and Mary Prayer Group (HJMPG)of
PDCC, based in Our Lady of Peace Shrine (EDSA Shrine) in
Quezon City, voted in a plebiscite to establish and
incorporate itself as a new community.
The newly-organized community was named Hearts of
Jesus and Mary Prayer Community and the erstwhile HJMPG was
renamed Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Prayer Group.
SRUPG decided to grow and thrive under the umbrella
of HJMPC and it has, since then, been officially considered
as the second regular prayer group of HJMPC.
Through the years, SRUPG has conducted
a number of Marriage Encounter Weekend Seminars, both
live-in and live-out and has actively participated in the
programs and activities of both the Community and the
Parish. In
particular, some members serve as Special Ministers of the
Holy Eucharist and lectors and commentators in the Parish
Masses and as Pre-Cana Seminar Speakers.
The Music Group provides the music for a Sunday
morning Mass.
Santisimo Rosario Parish Church is the
venue of the First Friday General Assembly of the Community
as well as its Annual Santacruzan, which has been adopted by
the Parish as its own Santacruzan.
