history of san roque cathedral (SRC)

In 1998, Tito Romy Ramos, as president of the Holy Name Society – San Roque Parish (SRP) Unit, sponsored five (5) couples to the Marriage Encounter Weekend Seminar of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos Community at the Light of the World Retreat House at Silang, Cavite. Thereafter, the Marriage Encounter Group of San Gabriel the Archangel Church in Caloocan City sponsored an outreach MEWS at SRP. Eleven (11) couples joined the MEWS. These couples comprised M.E. Class # 79 and were placed under the stewardship of Tito Mando/Tita Lucy Lagman, who lived in Caloocan City.

In 2000, Tito Joey Gregorio, then president of the Holy Name Society, encouraged M.E. CLASS # 79 to sponsor an M.E. class in San Roque Parish under the umbrella of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary Prayer Community. Monsignor Ben A. Lechuga, then parish priest of SRP, gave his blessing and support by allowing M. E. CLASS # 1 to be conducted at the 3rd Floor of the Parish Pastoral Center. It was a “Seat in Seminar”. From then on, successive M.E. classes were conducted. And the San Roque Parish Prayer Group was born.

From year 2000 to 2005, the San Roque Parish Prayer Group was an affiliate of the HJM Prayer Community. It was finally declared a regular prayer group of HJM Prayer Community in 2006, the year that San Roque Parish was elevated to a cathedral. Thus, the corresponding change in the name of the prayer group from San Roque Parish Prayer Group to San Roque Cathedral (SRC) Prayer Group.
