history of st. padre pio (SPP)

Around the year 2009, members of Saint Joseph the Worker Prayer Group (SJWPG) residing in Batangas and Laguna began experiencing difficulty attending the regular prayer meetings and other activities of the Prayer Group being held in Don Bosco Church, Makati City. This was due to the travel distance and the worsening traffic situation along the South Luzon Expressway and major thoroughfares leading to Don Bosco Church.

Not wanting to be deprived of weekly spiritual nourishment, some couples thought of establishing a prayer
group in the Batangas area. The idea readily received the encouragement and support of the late Tito Naning Alinea, Elder and one of the founders of HJM Prayer Community as well as now Elder, then Shepherd Couple of SJWPG Tito Jun and Tita Irene Guevarra. In like manner, the establishment of an HJM prayer group in the Shrine of St. Padre Pio in Sto. Tomas, Batangas was readily and gladly welcomed by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Jojo Gonda.

On 26th February 2011, with only 21 couples as members, the St. Padre Pio Prayer Group (SPPPG) held its first General Assembly at the Old Shrine of St. Padre Pio. Rev. Fr. Gonda guided the group as its Spiritual Adviser.

On 04 September 2013, the SPPPG was officially inaugurated as a regular Prayer Group of the HJMPC at the
Healing Shrine of St. Padre Pio in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, by then Head Servants Tito Noel and Tita Ritz Dueñas. The memorable event was spearheaded by Tito Morris and Tita Carol De Ramos as Resident
Shepherd Couple and Tito Obet and Tita Bevs Tolentino as Pastoral Head. Indeed, GOD has a way of bringing faith, hope and love in close proximity to everyone who abides in Him.

"A mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds a very large number of livestock" Exodus 12:38

This verse is so true of SPPPG. Currently, SPPPG is a fast growing prayer group with the biggest number of active members among the 18 prayer groups of HJMPC. As of this writing, there are 103 covenanted couples, 323 non-covenanted couples, 2 solo parents and 219 teen members. SPPPG continues to thrive and flourish under the guidance of the current Shepherd Couple Tito Boyet/Tita Jane Medina and the dynamic leadership of the Pastoral Team headed by Tito Lhan/Tita Michelle Moreno, PT1: Tito Benbong/Tita Shirly Felismino, PT2 : Tito Ronald/Tita Ellen Robles, PT3: Tito Wilson/Tita Amor Gonzales and PT4: Tito Aries/Tita Ara Chavez.

Notwithstanding the ongoing pandemic, with the permission of the Parish Priest and strict observance of health protocols, SPPPG continues to conduct prayer meetings and other regular and special activities. With God's grace and mercy, SPPPG was able to hold the following activities through the help of people who continue to share their 3T's
