history of Mary mother of god (MMG)

Two months after the establishment of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary Prayer Community (HJMPC), or on the 27th day of April, 1992, the Mary Mother of God (MMG) Prayer Group was inaugurated as its third prayer group.  This was upon the initiative of twenty (20) couples-graduates of the Marriage Encounter Weekend Seminars of the Pag-ibig sa Diyos Catholic Community (PDCC), who chose to join the newly-organized HJMPC.  These couples, who lived in the Muntinlupa City, Las Piñas, Parañaque and Biñan areas, travelled from their respective homes every Tuesday to attend the prayer meetings of the Our Lady of Peace (OLP) Prayer Group at EDSA Shrine in Quezon City.  Challenged by the distance of travel, they thought of and recommended on March 26, 1992 to the Board of Servant Leaders (BSL) the organization of a prayer group in the southern part of Metro Manila.  The recommendation was approved by the BSL.

The proximity and accessibility of the Mary, Mother of God Parish along the National Road in Bayanan, Muntinlupa City made it the most suitable venue.  Representations with the then parish priest, Rev. Fr. Lari Abaco, bore positive results.  Thus, on April 27, 1992, Mary Mother of God Prayer Group, named after the patroness of the parish, was inaugurated as the third regular prayer group of HJMPC.

The first ME Seminar that MMG joined as a prayer group was that conducted by HJPMC at Las Brisas Hotel and Conference Center, Antipolo, in October, 1992.  The following year, 1993, MMG organized and sponsored its first Marriage Encounter Class Outreach at the Zelatrix Sisters Convent, Bayanan, Muntinlupa City with 25 couple candidates.  In 1995, couple members who were residents of Biñan, Laguna were inspired to propagate to their vicinity and surrounding communities the benefits of the marriage encounter as well as the sustained spiritual activities of a prayer group. This inspiration gave birth to the Most Blessed Sacrament (MBS) Prayer Group in South City Homes, Biñan, Laguna.  Years later, in November 2016, in line with the change in the HJMPC policy of conducting Marriage Encounter Weekend Seminars (MEWS) by prayer group, MMG started to hold its own regular MEWS.  Its first prayer group ME Class was HJM ME Class No. 542 composed of twelve (12) couples.

From 1992 to the present, MMGPG has been receiving guidance from the incumbent parish priest of Mary, Mother of God Parish who acted as the Prayer Group Spiritual Adviser.  These are, in order of succession:  Fr. Lari Abaco,  Fr. Nestor Fajardo, Fr. Alfred Ramos, Fr. Bong Gino, Fr. Roselle Hernandez and Fr. Francis Siguan.

In like manner, MMGPG has been blessed with the watchful care and guidance of Shepherd Couples as well as Pastoral Teams under the leadership of dedicated and faithful Pastoral Heads.  Again, in order of succession:

The pastoral care bestowed upon the MMG Prayer Group through the years has resulted in the members’ dedication and enthusiasm for service to God and to their sisters and brothers in Christ.  They remain steadfast in their commitment to know themselves better, relate to God better, serve God better by proclaiming and witnessing to His Word, and by living a deeper spiritual life, despite of and in spite of all the challenges that life may bring.  MMG’s beliefs are best summarized by its own acronym MMGPG that means:

M -- agpuri

M – anampalataya ng may

G – alak sa mga

P – uso ni Hesus at Maria sa

G – itna ng mga pagsubok.
